One Time Transfer Exception

Officially approved on April 15th 2021, the One Time Transfer Exception now allows for all NCAA Division I athletes in all sports to transfer one time and be immediately eligible at their new school. Prior to the rule change, student-athletes who played baseball, football, men’s and women’s basketball, and men’s ice hockey could not make use of the One Time Transfer Exception. To qualify for the One Time Transfer Exception, the student-athlete must meet certain criteria. These criteria include transferring from a four-year institution to a Division I school, being academically eligible when leaving their old school, not having previously transferred from a four-year school, and certifying in writing that there was no tampering from their new school.
