Yoel Romero Palacio was born in Pinar del Río, Cuba. Nicknamed the “Soldier of God” Yoel Romero is one the longest active MMA fighters in the sport. Prior to becoming an MMA fighter, he was an Olympic freestyle wrestler winning the silver medal in the 2000 Sydney Olympics. He also won medals in multiple competitions including the Wrestling World Cup, the Pan-American Games and the Pan American Championship. His half-brother Yoan Pablo Hernández, competes as a cruiserweight boxer. He is currently signed to Bellator MMA, where he competes in the Light Heavyweight division. Romero formerly competed in the middleweight division of the UFC, and he was a four-time challenger for the UFC Middleweight Championship. He has amassed a 13-6-0 record across nineteen professional bouts including eleven victories via a TKO.

He is a really private person and never disclosed the name of his wife to the public. They have 2 daughters and a son together.
