Edgaras Matakas

My name is Edgaras Matakas from Lithuania, I am 23 years old. I won 3rd place in 2020 Tokyo Paralympic games, I won gold and bronze in 2017 World Para Swimming Championship in Mexico, which made me first in my country to win the World Para Swimming Championship, also I won 3 gold medals in 2021 Europe Para Swimming Championship in Madeira. I also participated in 2016 Rio Paralympic games, where I was one of the youngest Paralympic athletes there. Furthermore, I have more than 15 national para swimming records and multiple high-ranking awards from the president of my country and the mayor of my city. Besides that, I have a university degree and make motivational speeches for children, usually around a topic that “disability cannot stop you”. I also have a social media accounts, where I try to show that even though I am blind, I can still live a full-fledged life. Because there is still a stigma surrounding disabled people that they need a lot of assistance and cannot enjoy life as a healthy person. I had hardships with friends, love life and had to show twice as much that it is possible for me to do things that a normal person does for example manage an Instagram account, play video games, watch movies (in my example hear movies), drive a go-kart, etc. I also try to bring an awareness that Paralympic athletes go through a lot of hardships, emotionally and physically, sometimes even more than an Olympic athlete. That is why I go on podcasts and talk about relevant stuff, try to educate the public how people like me truly lives.

Also, the sponsorship can help me be recognized by the public and it would allow me to easier spread the awareness.
